Last December, I spent some time reflecting on how I want my 2019 to look and feel.
What kind of contribution do I want to make?
What do I want to accomplish personally and professionally?
How do I want to show up as a wife, mother, business owner, creative, and human being?
Inspired by the “what are your 3 words?” movement, I wrote mine down as:
CREATIVITY. VITALITY. GENEROSITY.
Creativity, as Elizabeth Gilbert explained in Big Magic, is not (just) a moment of inspiration on a long train ride that results in a story about a boy wizard and his adventures.
Creativity is something we have to actively schedule and make room for. We are forever on standby, honing our craft in whatever form it takes – writing, practising music, dancing, singing, acting – while waiting for the divine spark.
So this year, I have decided that I will allot 20 minutes to my daily routine to Be Creative. That might mean 20 minutes doodling, or learning an unfamiliar genre of music, or singing my favourite Cantopop songs.
Vitality for me means more energy, more enthusiasm, more life.
As an introvert, this requires me to consciously step out of my comfort zone to meet new people, speak in public, share my message, and create community.
To do this takes time and energy (physical, mental, and emotional). It means eating well, getting enough quality sleep, exercising, not being sedentary, engaging with new ideas, and challenging myself to take risks and try new things.
Generosity to me is about doing more for others without overthinking it, by leaning into my intuition and gut feeling about what is the right thing and the good thing to do in a given situation.
What are your 3 words for 2019?
To keep it private, you can share them with me at Serena (at) SerenaLow.com.au.
I would love to hear from you!
